A Proposal for the Future once it is saved.

Artist: Steve Lowtwait, www.campsteve.com.

The World's Fair Preservation Society believes the New York State Pavilion, designed by the famous architect Philip Johnson, should be saved. Unfortunately, it has been allowed to deteriorate and its future has been mired in proposals, none of which so far have seemed to be the right answer for the structure.

The Belgium Pavilion - Bells for Peace

The Belgium Pavilion - Bells for Peace Project

On May 1, 2006 I found out that the Belgium Building had been moved to Richmond, Virginia after the Fair had closed. I was under the impression that other than the Building of the City of New York, now the Queens Museum, none of the buildings from the 1939 Fair survived. I am so happy to be wrong. The building was a gift.

The building was a gift to Virginia Union University, in Richmond, Virginia from the Belgian Government because of the university’s location and mission. Read more about the project and Bells for Peace.
